What materials and tools are needed for needle felting ducks?
Needle felting ducks require three items for assembly: wool strips, poking needles, and felting pads. Together these three forms the core and basis for needle felting ducks.

Needle felting is an engaging craft for novice and expert alike alike! Use a special barbed needle to craft wool into adorable characters – such as ducks!
Materials and tools needed for needle felted ducks
To successfully craft a needle felted duck, the following materials and tools will come in handy – each will help ensure its completion successfully.

Makings
Wool strips (wool fibers): yellow (body), white (belly or wing detail), orange (duck bill and feet)
Black wool (for eyes, or optional finished eyes))
Wire or hair roots (for duck leg support, optional)

Artifact
Wool felting poking needles: It is recommended to prepare several different thicknesses of poking needles for roughing and detailing.
Wool felt or foam pads: to protect the table and poking needles from damage.
Tweezers (optional, for attaching small parts such as eyes)
Scissors (for trimming details)

Optional Accessories
- Small finished glass or plastic eyes (to liven up the finished product)
- Glue (for fixing small parts such as eyes)

Which are the most critical materials for needle felted ducks
Needles felting ducks primarily use two materials as crucial ingredients:
Wool Strips (Wool Fibers)
This main raw material of needle felted duck production, determines its shape, texture and color of the final product. Yellow wool fiber strips make up most of its body while white fabric may be required for details, beak and feet of an orange felted duck; its quality directly affects fineness/firmness/durability/finish of its finished form and should be an irreplaceable core raw material source for needle felting duck production.

Poking Needle for Wool Felting
The poking needle is essential in shaping wool felt. By constantly poking at wool strips, its fibers become entangled and compacted forming an stable three-dimensional structure resulting in needle felting which cannot take place without this tool.

Wool Felt Pads/ Foam Pads
Although not a key component of the finished product, felt pads play an indispensable role. Protecting both table and poking needle while providing safe handling is of the utmost importance; their use prevents broken poking needles as well as damage to tables from occurring.

These three materials and tools are essential in needle felted duck making. Other materials, including wire (to support duck legs), completed eyes, glue, scissors etc. may be added based on individual needs but they’re not essential components.

Needle Felting Duck Basic Steps
- Make the Body
- Roll a piece of yellow wool into an oval.
- Poke it with a felt needle and shape it until it is firm and smooth.
- Make the Head
- Roll a small ball of yellow wool into a duck head.
- Glue the joints together with felt to attach it to the duck.
- Add the Beak and Feet
- Roll a small ball of orange wool into a flat triangle for the duck’s beak and glue it to the duck’s head.
- To make the duck’s feet, you can use orange wool, or you can wrap the wool around the wire for stability and glue it to the duck.
- Attach Eyes
- Use felt to glue the eyes to a small black ball of wool, or glue on glass/plastic eyes.
- Refine and Decorate
- Add white wool to create details such as duck bellies or wings.
- Continue felting until the duck becomes firm and the surface is smooth.
